Before its worlwide launch, I spent some nights playing Detroit: Become Human (thank you Sony for the experience!), an adventure game developed by Quantic Dream, expanding on the studio’s legacy of gripping, narrative driven experiences (Fahrenheit / Heavy Rain™ / Beyond: Two Souls™), and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4.
Set in the near-future metropolis of Detroit during the year 2038, the Quantic’s game is rejuvenating this 19th century tech-hub and the largest U.S. city to file for… bankruptcy in 2013, by the invention and introduction of androids into everyday life. I know, you are thinking about progress, digital displays and other crazy stuff, but the game is underlining also the lack of jobs and the stress of the mankind related to it.
➡ The BRAIN (rating 10/10)
You will get three androids: Kara, who escapes the owner she was serving to explore her newfound sentience and protect a young girl; Connor, whose job it is to hunt down sentient androids; and Markus, who devotes himself to releasing other androids from servitude. They may survive or perish depending on dialogue choices that shape the story as customised by the player.
I have died with Connor a couple of times (both by my mistakes, trying to catch Kara crossing a highway – the game is changing controls from Connor to Kara and viceversa; I succeeded to save Kara, but Connor was killed twice), but each time I was “revived” and sent back to work. 🙂
Markus was accused for his owner’s death and split in pieces. I have found myself (as Markus) in an android yard full of body parts and electronic devices that they are using to see or hear. After 10 minutes of search, I was able to walk away from that yard with a fully functional Markus.
Kara is the only android that escaped with no injuries at all. At least until now. 🙂
Somehow, at one point, the androids start behaving as if they are alive and I choose to go human with Kara, who saved a little girl from his father (domestic violence), and Markus. My Connor is still 100% android, to be able to see another perspective of the game and also to have an enemy for the other two. 🙂

Of course, the control of the characters is limited, and at the end of each chapter you will be able to see how many possibilities were in order to finish that chapter, and what were your actions.
A 10/10 rating on The Brain. 🙂

If you ask me, Detroit: Become Human is actually a movie. Throughout the game, players will co-write the story through their actions and answers. Not shitting you. You are the director of a real time movie, and you can control the story of each of this 3 characters.
I’ve played it on a huge curved 4K Samsung TV and I was amazed by the clarity of the details, the scenes, the cuts, time lapses and so on. Here are some photos I took during the gameplay.
It gets a 10/10 also.
➡ The MUSCLES (rating 9/10)
Being “a movie”, to control a character might be annoying at the beginning. Sometimes you are seeing everything from a 3rd person perspective, sometimes the camera remains still and you’ll see you rounding a crime scene, a crossroad, or an entire city area. There is also a 3rd view, androids being able to rebuild a fight by using the clues found in a room, for example.
Fortunately, the gameplay is not complicated, you’ll be guided by tooltips that will tell you what keys you must press in order to choose an answer, or do a task. In 30 minutes everything will be ok.
9/10 on this.
